How to Choose the Right Marriage Celebrant

Exchange of ringsDeciding on the right celebrant or minister is one of the most important, if not the most important, decision you will make for your wedding.

However keep in mind, if you have decided you are having a church wedding and you have selected a specific church, then your choice will be slim on who will conduct your ceremony.

When you are looking for, and talking to, celebrants (either civil or religious) the most important thing you need to look for is that you both feel comfortable. Your celebrant should make you feel at ease, relaxed and fill you with confidence!

A good celebrant will be able to think on their feet, thus being willing to be flexible to make changes to the marriage service even at the last minute, if need be.
Look for a celebrant that focuses on you and asks the right questions to try and understand the type of ceremony that will reflect you as a couple.

What celebrants charge for their services usually comes down to the individual marriage celebrant. However keep in mind there may be additional charges that the celebrant may charge, ie: travel (over a certain distance) and parking just to name a few. So be sure to ask your celebrant if there will be any additional fees involved. Remember to ask about a rehearsal (if one is needed). Your celebrant should be happy to assist you with this.

To ensure you receive a high quality of service, marriage celebrants are legally bound by a Code of Practice that has been set by the Attorney General’s Office.
