Order of Ceremony
When having a civil ceremony the order of your wedding can be as flexible as you would like. However a traditional order of ceremony could include:
- Processional or Bridal March
- Celebrant’s Welcome – The Celebrant welcomes family and friends to your ceremony and introduces themselves.
- The ‘Giving Away’ – Bride and or Groom are given away by parents or family or gives one another to each other.
- The Introduction – This is where your celebrant will talk about you as a couple and the ideas of marriage.
- Readings – This could be a poem, verse or reading either done by a family or friend. It is a lovely way to have them involved in your day.
- The Momentum – This is a legal requirement as per the Marriage Act that your celebrant is required to say.
- Declaration of the intention to Marry – A public declaration made by the couple
- Vows
- Exchanging of Wedding Rings
- Conclusion – The celebrant will say a short conclusion to the ceremony
- Declaration of Marriage by Celebrant – ‘I now pronounce you husband and wife’.
- Signing of the Marriage Register
- Presentation and Congratulations - Now introduce Mr and Mrs....
- Recessional – Couple leave the ceremony
Remember with civil ceremony’s you may have as little or as much as you like. For example you might choose not to be given away or even to exchange rings. The choice is up to you! Your celebrant will be able to help you design a ceremony that will best suit you and your finance’.
